Is Canada a nice place to live for immigrants as far as work and self-business opportunities are concerned?

My family and I are thinking of applying for the Canadian permanent residence very soon. I want to be self-employed by opening a shop/small business while my spouse who is a foreign doctor can practice there or work in a hospital/clinic. I seem bewildered by the pros and cons about living in Canada. Some say even foreign doctors really have a hard time finding jobs despite the shortage of doctors there; due to scarcity of jobs or bureaucracy, educated people have to take jobs as cab drivers or pizza men, for instance. Some even have the websites for those disliking Canada: www.notcanada.com and tell all kind of scary experiences there. Some for Canada say it's certainly a great place to be. I went to schools in the US, loved it there and have siblings living there permanently, but I'm worried about the high crime rate due to its relaxed gun control. So,I'm now thinking of Canada instead. Please could anyone help me give inputs here? Thank you very much, all!GBU!

Hi,Michiana!

Given your qualifications n capitals, just stay at where u r there.U'll have more success there than being in Canada.Govt of Canada only wants your money to finance all the so-called free things enjoyed by the Canadians now. Looking at some posted comments from rx77615...don't buy it!She didn't know u just asking if your spouse could maybe practice her medical skills there, instead of what she thought of u trying to match the so-called Canadian medical education according to her false perceptions. What a shame on her! I know that some foreign education is way better than Canadian,so don't feel discouraged.I myself went to the US n graduated from great universities (University of Michigan n the University of Pennsylvania) which are definitely way above Canada's schools in quality standards. She even didn't know or even forgot u said u had experiences living n schooling in the US although u detailed it already. It shows how ignorant she is, too bad...Good luck on your endeavors!
Reply:Canada is a good place to live in without the terrorist threats like that of 9/11 in the US.
Reply:I agree I'll travel to the states but I would never live there.

I have heard from the news that their is a government organization set up to help immigrnats with starting their own business. As for Doctors ...their are many educated doctors in Canada please son't fool yourself .But their is a shortage of funds that they are talking about that the goivernement is not giving enough any longer for beds etc ..many new doctors face the decision of moving to rural or suburbs to get jobs instead of staying in the city or going to the states for jobs .Did you think foreign doctors are more educated !!!

As it sounds your shocked that a foreign doctor can not come and move a canadian born doctor out for the job !

GUESS WHAT AS WELL..their are many university and educated people here doing jobs that are not their profession as well .

Canadians love Canada for thequlaity life we have here ...why don't you take a trip to a few parts of the states and then do the same in Canada . As it seems strange that you wantto move to either one of the countries that you do not know very much about . By the way America also has educated people ..don't be shocked if either country doesn't kick their own out of a job for you just because your coming from a foreign country
Reply:I wouldn't live any where else.

I like taking trips to the USA, but you couldn't get me to live there.
Reply:WOW. afraid of america because of our gun laws? thats insane. you're safer here than anywhere. remember: people who know you don't have a gun KNOW YOU DON'T HAVE A GUN and can't protect yourself. think about it
